Why don't clothes dryers make your clothes smell like the room, since they draw in the air?

A lot of people use fabric softener sheets. I use bounce sheets. You toss them in with your load to dry. When your clothes come out, they smell like the fabric softener - the air pes through the scented sheet, so the air smells like the fabric softener.
