Why are so many protagonists in Japanese Anime and Video Games blonde?

For example, Naruto, Cloud Strife, Ichigo, and countless others. An even more interesting example of this might be the series Dragonball Z, where in order to become truly powerful, a saiyan must change from brown and eyes and hair, to blonde hair and blue eyes.
